The People’s Administration Team in Mindat, Chin State, has confirmed the discovery and seizure of over 2000 various types of landmines planted by the military council forces, with more still remaining to be cleared. According to Ko Yo Man, the Information Officer of Mindat Township People’s Administration Team, the military council troops had planted various types of mines not only around their military bases but also in civilian residential areas before their retreat.
The battle for Mindat began on November 9 as part of Operation CB (Chin Brothers), culminating in the complete capture of the city-based Infantry Battalion 274 on December 21. However, as the military council troops withdrew, they left behind numerous mines throughout the area, posing significant risks to returning civilians. While mine clearance teams have successfully removed over 2000 mines so far, authorities warn that more unexploded ordnance likely remains to be cleared.
The Mindat Township People’s Administration Team has issued urgent warnings to residents, advising them not to handle any suspicious objects, mines, or explosive devices they might discover in their homes, buildings, or along roadsides, and to immediately report such findings to relevant authorities. Mine clearance operations are continuing systematically, with concentrated efforts being made to ensure the safe return and residence of civilians in the area.
