The People’s Administration Team in Mindat Township, Chin State, has confirmed the discovery and seizure of over 2000 various types of landmines planted by the military council forces, with more still remaining to be cleared. According to Ko Yo Man, the Information Officer of Mindat Township People’s Administration Team, the military council troops had planted various types of mines not only around their military bases but also in civilian residential areas during their occupation of the town.
While more than 2000 mines of various types have been successfully cleared, authorities warn that there may still be more unexploded ordnance requiring clearance. As civilians begin returning to the town, they are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution. The administration has issued an urgent appeal to residents to immediately report any suspicious objects, devices, or mines they might discover near homes, buildings, or along roadsides, without attempting to handle them.
The liberation of Mindat began with Operation CB (Chin Brotherhood) on November 9th, culminating in the complete capture of Infantry Battalion 274 on December 21st and securing full control of the town. However, the mines left behind by retreating military council forces continue to pose a significant threat to local civilians, necessitating ongoing mine clearance operations. The extensive mining of civilian areas demonstrates the military council’s disregard for civilian safety, as these dangerous explosives were deliberately placed in areas where ordinary people live and work.
