The People’s Administration Team in Mindat Township has confirmed the discovery and seizure of more than 2000 various types of landmines planted by the military council forces in Mindat city, Chin State, with more remaining to be cleared. According to Ko Yo Man, the Information Officer of Mindat Township People’s Administration Team, the military council troops had planted various types of mines not only around their military bases but also in civilian residential areas during their occupation of the city.
While more than 2000 mines have already been cleared, authorities warn that there may still be more unexploded ordnance requiring removal. The People’s Administration Team has issued urgent warnings to civilians returning to the city to exercise extreme caution. Residents are strongly advised not to touch or handle any suspicious objects, mines, or explosive devices they might discover near their homes, buildings, or along roadsides. Instead, they should immediately report such findings to relevant authorities for proper handling and disposal.
The liberation of Mindat city began with Operation CB (Chin Brothers) on November 9, culminating in the complete capture of Infantry Battalion 274’s base on December 21, leading to full control of the city. However, the mines left behind by retreating military council forces continue to pose a serious threat to local residents’ lives and property. As a result, systematic mine clearance operations are ongoing as authorities work to ensure the safe return and residence of civilians in the area. The extensive mining of civilian areas demonstrates the military council’s disregard for civilian safety, as these explosive devices continue to endanger local populations long after military operations have concluded.
