In Myitche town of Pakokku Township, Magway Region, military council forces killed three civilians and burned down approximately 200 houses. The incident began on July 14 at around 9 AM when military forces from Battalion 101, arriving in five military vehicles at Aung Tha Pyu village in Pakokku Township, joined forces with another military column that arrived in five boats from Nyaung-U Township near Kyun Kalar village. The combined forces indiscriminately fired heavy weapons and invaded Nyaungpin village and Nargat village in Myitche Township’s Nyaungpin village tract, setting fire to civilian homes.
The military council’s offensive resulted in the destruction of 47 houses in East Nargat village, 63 houses in West Nargat village, and 84 houses in Nyaungpin village. The civilians killed by the military forces were U Htay Kyaw from Kyeepin Kone village, and U Win Htay and U Soe Min from West Nargat village. The victims were farmers over 50 years of age who were killed when they encountered military troops while returning to feed their cattle. The military had already forced most villagers to evacuate, but these individuals had returned briefly to tend to their livestock.
In response to these killings and destruction of civilian properties, People’s Defense Forces launched a surprise attack against the military forces at around 6 PM on July 14. The ensuing firefight lasted approximately 45 minutes, resulting in more than 15 military casualties and at least 14 severe injuries among military personnel. The military council forces retreated along their original route after retrieving their dead and wounded. Six of the deceased soldiers were reportedly buried near Nyaung-U, while the injured were transported by boats to Nyaung-U and Meiktila for treatment. The coordinated resistance attack was carried out by multiple revolutionary forces including PDF Battalion 5 Era Daung, Pakokku District PDF Battalion 8, BLY Pauk PDF, Pakokku District Battalion 13, Pakokku Township Area 1 PDF, Red Giant Bogyoke Aung Kyaw, Alintun Guerrilla Force (Myaing) YGF, Tiger Warrior Force, and King Fighter Force, with only one resistance fighter sustaining minor injuries during the operation.
