In Pauk Township, Magway Region, over ten thousand civilians from 25 villages have been forced to flee their homes due to daily airstrikes by the military council forces attempting to clear the way for their supply convoy. The military convoy, which departed from Infantry Division 101 in Pakokku on May 27, has been unable to enter Pauk Township due to resistance forces’ attacks and remains blocked along the route. To enable the trapped convoy’s advancement, the military council has been conducting daily aerial attacks using fighter jets, Y-12 aircraft, and armed helicopters on villages along the route.
Currently, more than ten thousand residents from 25 villages have been displaced for nearly a month, seeking refuge in nearby villages and forested areas. As the displacement period extends, there is an urgent need for shelter, food supplies, and medical assistance, according to an official from the Pauk Township Humanitarian Aid Group. The military council continues to conduct daily airstrikes while also carrying out arrests and killings of local civilians.
The military column has killed three civilians and is holding 15 others as human shields. Additionally, four civilians have died due to the military’s aerial attacks, which have also destroyed homes, monasteries, and internally displaced persons camps, as confirmed by an official from the Kamma Region Revolutionary Alliance. The displaced civilians are unable to return to their homes due to security concerns and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
