According to Ko Nwe Oo, leader of the Myaung Township People’s Defense and Security Group, more than 10,000 residents from 14 villages have been forced to flee due to the military council’s ongoing attacks, killings of civilians, and systematic burning of villages along the border between Yesagyo Township in Magway Region and Myaung Township in Sagaing Region. On March 2, approximately 80 military council troops from Yesagyo launched an offensive on Myeisone village, using heavy artillery. The same day, drone strikes resulted in the destruction of two houses in Sinchiyar village and the burning of about seven motorcycles.
The military forces conducted a second arson attack on Myeisone village on March 3, followed by a third attack on March 4 after reinforcing their troops with an additional 60 soldiers. On March 5, they raided Zarapni village and burned civilian homes, and on March 7, they set fire to Thakhaunglay village. Currently, residents from multiple villages in both townships continue to flee to safety, including those from Myeisone, Sinchiyar, Malakachan, Shwelan, Ywathit, Thakhaunggyi, Zarapni, Thakhaunglay, and Phyonbu villages in Yesagyo Township, as well as Myitsone, Ngarhtoe, Minhla, Pannyoe, and Nyaungkayar villages in Myaung Township.
During their raid on Myeisone village, the military council’s forces committed brutal acts including the arrest and killing of several elderly civilians: U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), Daw Than Pyay (60 years old), and Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old). Some victims were burned to death. As the military council forces continue to maintain their presence along the Yesagyo-Myaung border, local residents remain displaced and continue to seek refuge in safer areas.
