According to Ko Nwe Oo, head of the People’s Defense and Security Team in Myaung Township, more than 10,000 civilians have been forced to flee their homes due to the military council’s ongoing attacks, killings, and village burnings along the border of Yesagyo Township in Magway Region and Myaung Township in Sagaing Region. On March 2, approximately 80 military council troops from Yesagyo launched an offensive with heavy artillery fire and invaded Myeisone village. On the same day, drone attacks resulted in the destruction of two houses and about seven motorcycles in Sinchaeya village.
The military council forces burned Myeisone village for a second time on March 3, and after reinforcing their troops with about 60 more soldiers, they burned the village for a third time on March 4. On March 5, they raided Zarapni village and burned civilian homes, followed by the burning of Thakhaunglay village on March 7. Currently, residents from fourteen villages are displaced, including Myeisone, Sinchaeya, Malakachan, Shwelan, Ywartha, Thakhaunggyi, Zarapni, Thakhaunglay, and Phyonbu villages in Yesagyo Township, as well as Myitsone, Ngarhtoe, Minhla, Pannyoe, and Nyaungkaya villages in Myaung Township. These civilians continue to seek refuge in safer locations.
During their raid on Myeisone village, the military council’s forces committed brutal acts including the arrest and killing of five elderly civilians: U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), Daw Than Pyay (60 years old), and Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), as confirmed by a representative from the Yesagyo Township Information Committee. The military council forces remain positioned along the Yesagyo-Myaung border and are attempting to advance further into Myaung Township, causing continued fear among local residents who are still fleeing to safety.
