More than 10,000 civilians have been forced to flee their homes as the military council conducts operations along the border of Yesagyo Township in Magway Region and Myaung Township in Sagaing Region, carrying out killings and systematic village burnings, according to the Myaung Township People’s Defense and Security Group. On March 2, approximately 80 military council troops from Yesagyo launched an offensive, using heavy weapons to attack and occupy Myeisone village. On the same day, military drone strikes resulted in the destruction of two houses and seven motorcycles in Sinchiyar village.
The military forces burned Myeisone village for a second time on March 3, and after reinforcing their numbers with 60 additional troops, conducted a third burning of the village on March 4. On March 5, they raided Zarapni village and burned civilian homes, followed by the burning of Thakhaunglay village on March 7. Currently, residents from fourteen villages including Myeisone, Sinchiyar, Malakachan, Shwelan, Ywartha, Thakhaunggyi, Zarapni, Thakhaunglay, and Phyonbu in Yesagyo Township, as well as Myitsone, Ngarhtoe, Minla, Panyo, and Nyaungkayar in Myaung Township continue to seek refuge in safer locations.
The leader of the Myaung Township People’s Defense and Security Group reported that the military column is attempting to enter Myaung Township and remains positioned along the Yesagyo-Myaung border, forcing civilians to remain displaced. During their raid on Myeisone village, military council troops arrested and killed five elderly civilians: U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), Daw Than Pyay (60 years old), and Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), according to the Yesagyo Township Information Committee. Some victims were burned to death, marking another instance of the military council’s brutal tactics against civilians in the region.
