According to the Myaung Township People’s Defense and Security Force, more than 10,000 civilians have been forced to flee their homes as the military council conducts operations along the border of Yesagyo Township in Magway Region and Myaung Township in Sagaing Region, carrying out killings and systematic burning of villages. On March 2, approximately 80 military council troops from Yesagyo launched an offensive on Myay Sone village while firing heavy weapons. On the same day, drone strikes resulted in the destruction of two houses and about seven motorcycles in Sin Chay Ya village.
The military forces burned Myay Sone village for a second time on March 3, and after reinforcing their numbers with 60 more troops, conducted a third burning operation on March 4. On March 5, they entered Zayat Ni village and burned civilian homes, followed by the burning of Tha Kaung Lay village on March 7. Currently, residents from fourteen villages including Myay Sone, Sin Chay Ya, Malaka Chan, Shwe Hlan, Ywa Thit, Tha Kaung Gyi, Zayat Ni, Tha Kaung Lay, and Phyun Bu in Yesagyo Township, as well as Myit Sone, Nga Yant O, Min Hla, Pan Nyo, and Nyaung Kar Yar in Myaung Township continue to seek refuge in safer locations.
During their brutal operations, the military council forces committed atrocities including the arrest and killing of elderly civilians in Myay Sone village: U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60 years old), U Than Mani (88 years old), Daw Than Pyay (60 years old), and Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old). Some victims were burned to death. As the military council forces continue their attempts to advance into Myaung Township, local residents remain fearful and continue to flee to safety, according to local sources.
