In Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, the terrorist military council’s operations have resulted in the killing of two civilians and the detention of 16 people, including children, forcing more than 10,000 local residents to flee their homes, according to confirmation from the Kyunhla Activists Group. On May 31, military forces from Chapsin territory entered Kangyi Village’s western area, where they shot and killed Ko Thein Htwe, aged 40, and Ko Zeyar Htun, aged 20. They also arrested 16 civilians, including three young girls aged 7, 8, and 12 years old, who remain in detention to this day.
On June 2, two military columns from Koetaungbo military camp and Chapsin territory bases launched operations into Missalinkon village and Htoekone village. The combined forces of approximately 100 soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee militia members conducted arrests and shootings of civilians, while also launching drone attacks on Htoekone, Zikone, and Pauktaw villages. Since May 18, the military council has stationed around 200 troops in Sintaw village, where they have been forcibly confiscating civilians’ carts, cattle, and valuable possessions.
Due to the military council’s four-column operation, approximately 10,000 residents from villages including Kangyi, U Kyin Kyi, Paukseinkone, Sintaw, Alaykon, Lwingyi, Zawchaung, Aukhte, Wetsayin, Tinmaw, Nyopinshwe, Htoekone, Paukkone, and Zikone have been displaced for nearly 20 days. The displaced civilians are facing double hardship as it is the rainy season and there are concerns about dangerous snakes in the area. Due to heavy rainfall, they are suffering from cold symptoms, coughs, and seasonal flu, while urgently requiring emergency medicine, shelter, and food supplies, according to the statement released by the Kyunhla Activists Group.
