The combined forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) have successfully captured the military council’s Thuka camp in the Thai-Myanmar border area of Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region. During the battle that occurred on July 7, approximately 40 military council troops fled to Thailand without putting up resistance when the revolutionary forces launched their offensive. A source from the People’s Defense Force confirmed that the military council soldiers retreated immediately after the initial attack.
The Karen National Union (KNU) Mergui-Tavoy District also issued a statement confirming the capture of the Thuka camp, reporting that more than 30 soldiers from the camp had fled to Thailand. Earlier this year, during April and June, revolutionary forces successfully captured four other military camps in the Dawei District, including the Htee Hta strategic camp, Htee Khee military camp, Bawdi military camp, and Ngayanni camp. With the recent capture of the Thuka camp, the revolutionary forces have now successfully seized control of a total of five military camps in the area.
Currently, only the Nat Ain Taung camp remains along the Thai-Myanmar border in Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region, with an estimated force of between 30 to 50 soldiers. Military sources confirm that if revolutionary forces manage to capture the Nat Ain Taung camp, they will gain complete control over the entire Thai-Myanmar border section within the Dawei District. Additionally, revolutionary forces have surrounded another military council camp, making it impossible for the military council to send reinforcements to the area. The situation represents a significant strategic advancement for the revolutionary forces in their control of the border region, according to military sources.
