
Intense fighting continues daily in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, where the cornered military fired artillery shells, killing one woman and injuring five civilians, according to confirmed KIA military sources. Around 9 PM yesterday, the military council’s base in Tapmaw fired six artillery shells into Sai Taung village and toward Sut Taung Kon area, resulting in one woman’s death and injuries to five civilians. Since the arrival of military columns in Hpakant city over two months ago, more than 60 civilians have been killed and over 150 injured.
The deceased was identified as Daw Bum Sam, while the injured were Ma Lahshi Doi Lin, Ma Ja Sai Roi Ein, Maung Mun Lat Naw, Maung Jung Lum, and Ma Ja Sai Htoi Nu Pan. Additionally, around 1 PM on August 7, intense fighting broke out between combined forces of KIA and KPDF against military council troops and SNA militia near Swut Ngai Yang village, Maw Wan Lay village, and Nyaung Pin Kon village in Hpakant. Around 4 PM, the military council conducted airstrikes near Maw Wan Lay village.
Daily intense fighting continues as the military council operates with four columns in Hpakant city, Maw Maung Lyang, Swut Ngai Yang, garbage dump, and Hpakant cemetery areas. Military columns stationed at Tapmaw and Maw Si Za Kon in Hpakant city are deliberately targeting civilian residential areas with heavy artillery. According to KIA military sources, the military council has deployed hundreds of troops in Thaung Chaung below Nyaung Pin Kon and in Maw Maung Lyang, where ongoing battles with combined KIA and KPDF forces have resulted in numerous casualties on the military council’s side.
