
In Sagaing Region’s Yinmabin Township, near Ban Bwe Pyu Saw Htee village, military forces and their allied Pyu Saw Htee militia opened fire on a passenger vehicle, resulting in the immediate death of one woman and severely injuring three others, according to local residents. The incident occurred around 9 AM on June 5, 2024, at the descent of Lay Nyin Hill, north of Ban Bwe village, along the Monywa-Yagyi-Kalay road, where the military and Pyu Saw Htee forces fired without warning or attempting to stop the vehicle for inspection.
The targeted passenger vehicle was returning to the Kani area after passing through multiple military checkpoints in Monywa city. The vehicle was a regular passenger bus service operating between Pa Hae village, Kyin village, and Monywa. As a result of the military and Pyu Saw Htee forces’ attack, one female passenger was killed instantly, while two other women suffered critical injuries with gunshot wounds to their abdomens, leaving them in life-threatening conditions, according to local sources.
Additionally, the driver sustained injuries when a bullet penetrated the vehicle’s door and struck his thigh. However, he managed to escape capture by continuing to drive despite being frightened by the shooting. The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment from People’s Defense Forces in the Kani Township area. Local residents report living in fear due to such brutal attacks by the military forces on innocent civilians, facing significant risks during their daily travel. This incident highlights the ongoing violence against civilians by military forces in the region, where people must navigate dangerous conditions while attempting to conduct their normal activities.
