A military soldier was killed and two others were seriously injured when the People’s Defense Force (PDF) launched a mine attack on a military column conducting a show of force north of Ye-U town in Sagaing Region, according to a spokesperson from the Ye-U Township People’s Defense Force. The incident occurred on August 12, 2023, at approximately 8:25 AM when about 100 military personnel and Pyu Saw Htee militia members stationed in Ye-U town marched toward Ywa Thit village in what appeared to be a show of force operation.
When the military column reached a location south of Ywa Thit village, the PDF forces detonated a mine point, resulting in one soldier’s death and severe injuries to two others. The attack took place approximately 500 meters from Ye-U town. The PDF forces also attempted to launch a drone attack, but the bombs fell into water and failed to detonate. No exchange of fire occurred between the two sides following the initial attack, and the military forces subsequently retreated back into the town.
The attack was carried out by the strike wing of the Ye-U Township People’s Defense Force, who confirmed they were able to withdraw successfully without any casualties on their side. The PDF also emphasized that they remain united with the local civilian population in their resistance efforts. This incident represents another successful operation by local resistance forces against military council troops in the Sagaing Region, where numerous clashes have occurred since the military coup.
