The Karen National Union (KNU) Central has reported that one civilian was killed and two others were injured due to violent attacks by military council forces in Shwegyin and Mone Townships of Bago Region. On April 24 at 10:30 AM, Infantry Battalion 439 of the military council conducted drone strikes on Thetphyuseik village in Mone Township, resulting in damage to two houses in the village. Later that day at 1:45 PM, military council troops fired fourteen 120mm artillery shells from Takhonhtaing position, which exploded in Layeainsu village.
The artillery bombardment resulted in the death of 70-year-old U Win Naing and injured two others – 30-year-old Daw Ma Oo and 45-year-old Ko Htun. These deliberate attacks on civilian areas have caused significant fear and anxiety among local residents. The military council’s continued use of heavy weapons and aerial attacks against civilian populations demonstrates a pattern of indiscriminate violence against non-combatants.
In Shwegyin Township, repeated clashes have occurred between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) allied forces and military council troops. The military council’s air force has conducted multiple airstrikes in addition to artillery bombardments. Due to the proximity of fighting, residents from several villages including Leipkular, Sandwonkhon, Kwanseik, Kyunchaung, Nyaungchaythauk, Winkan, Shansuu, and Zalutkyi have been forced to flee. A total of 4,196 civilians from these villages have been displaced, seeking safety in other areas. The ongoing military conflict has severely disrupted daily civilian life, with local communities facing both immediate security threats and long-term displacement challenges. The situation continues to deteriorate as military operations persist, leaving civilians caught in the crossfire and forcing them to abandon their homes and livelihoods.
