
The Central Committee of the Karen National Union (KNU) has officially announced that one innocent civilian was killed and two others were severely injured due to indiscriminate artillery attacks by military council troops in Mone and Letdo Townships within Nyaunglebin District of Bago Region. These incidents occurred between June 6 and June 14.
On June 11, Infantry Battalion 264, based in Peinzalok, launched an attack on the eastern part of Phayar Ngut Taw village using two 120mm artillery shells. Subsequently, on June 14, they fired upon Nwar Yay Chaung village, resulting in the immediate death of 35-year-old Saw Soe Oo and causing severe artillery-related injuries to 65-year-old Naw Mya Khin. These attacks involved the use of two 120mm artillery shells.
In Mone Township, the military council’s Infantry Battalion 439 initiated attacks on June 6, firing four 120mm artillery shells at Mya Pu Gyo village. On June 8, they continued their offensive by firing one 120mm artillery shell at Inn Ywa Lay village, three howitzer shells between Uthet Kin village and Ohn Pin Su village, eight artillery shells from Kun Chaung Wa between Ohn Pin Su village and Nga Nwa Seik village, three artillery shells at the monastery in Yin Teik Kone village, and three more artillery shells at the Buddhist monastery in Ohn Pin Su village from Nat Than Kwin.
Additionally, the military council employed drones to target Ohn Pin Su village, Nga Nwa Seik village, Uthet Kone village, and Anya Su village, launching a total of thirty-two artillery shells according to documented records. On June 9, military forces from Nat Than Kwin fired two 120mm artillery shells into Yay Let Bamar village and one shell into Yay Let Karen village, resulting in artillery-related injuries to 24-year-old Saw Htoo Tha from Yay Let Karen village. These attacks demonstrate the military council’s continued use of heavy artillery against civilian areas, causing casualties and destruction in multiple villages across the region.
