The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) has officially announced that one civilian was killed and three others were injured due to the military council’s sniper and drone attacks in Taung Kya village and Ummati village in Naung Cho Township, Shan State. The incident began on May 17 at approximately 10:23 AM when the military council forces launched two drone attacks on Taung Kya village in Naung Cho Township, followed by another attack at 10:49 AM, and two more attacks at around 11:00 AM.
During these attacks, which occurred without any active fighting, five bombs were dropped on the village, resulting in injuries to three civilians. The following day, on May 18 at around 8:00 AM, U Aik Hlaing, a 27-year-old resident of an IDP camp in Ummati village, Naung Cho Township, was shot and killed instantly by military council forces. According to TNLA’s statement, in their controlled areas of Naung Cho Township, the military council has been conducting daily attacks using aircraft, drones, and heavy weapons, targeting civilians despite the absence of any active combat engagements.
Although the military council extended its ceasefire period from May 6 to May 31, they have continued to conduct ground offensives, artillery strikes, and aerial and drone attacks within the Ta’ang region on a daily basis. As a result, local residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against the military council’s aerial, drone, and artillery attacks, despite the extended ceasefire period. The continuous bombardment and attacks have created a situation where civilians must maintain constant military awareness to avoid becoming casualties of these ongoing military operations.
