Revolutionary forces have surrounded the military council’s Anan Kwin strategic base in Kyainseikgyi Township, Karen State, during which the military council conducted airstrikes on civilian villages. According to the Naga Ni Column, these attacks resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to ten people, including two Buddhist monks, while also causing extensive damage to monasteries and residential homes. The military council’s deliberate targeting of non-military civilian areas has led to significant casualties and destruction of religious and civilian infrastructure.
On February 26, when an Mi-17 helicopter attempted to transport Strategic Commander Wanna Hlaing and his team, resistance forces engaged the aircraft, forcing it to retreat without landing. In retaliation, the military council deployed two fighter jets and one Y-12 aircraft to bomb Anan Kwin village, Pan Aung village, and Khanet War village, despite these being clearly non-military targets. The airstrikes caused severe injuries to two Buddhist monks and five villagers in Pan Aung village, with substantial damage to monastery buildings. In Khanet War (also known as Maw Htee) village, one civilian was killed and three others were wounded, with numerous houses destroyed in the attack.
Currently, Strategic Commander Wanna Hlaing and over two hundred soldiers remain trapped inside the Anan Kwin strategic base, which continues to be surrounded by revolutionary forces. The Naga Ni Column has reported that the military council is deliberately targeting civilian areas with no military significance, demonstrating a pattern of intentional attacks on non-combatant populations. The ongoing siege of the strategic base highlights the escalating conflict in the region, with the military council responding to military pressure by targeting civilian infrastructure and communities.
