A tragic incident occurred in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, where military forces opened fire on a civilian passenger boat, resulting in the death of one person and leaving another injured. The incident took place near Sheinmagya village in Wetlet Township at approximately 11:18 AM on April 18. The military forces were attempting to force a Welmar sugar barge to dock when they deliberately fired upon a motorboat that was traveling close to the barge.
As a result of this indiscriminate shooting, a 31-year-old civilian from Shinla village in Madaya Township was killed instantly, while another 27-year-old civilian sustained severe injuries. This incident serves as yet another example of the military’s brutal actions against innocent civilians. According to a representative from the Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Force, this was a deliberate targeted attack by the military forces.
This incident is just one example of the ongoing crimes being committed by the military against civilians in Myanmar, reflecting the daily loss of innocent lives. The military continues to show complete disregard for civilian lives and property, conducting attacks at any time without warning. This event further exposes the military’s brutality to the world and demonstrates how civilians cannot even conduct their daily activities safely under the current circumstances. The incident highlights the ongoing crisis in Myanmar where civilians face constant threats to their lives from military forces who operate with impunity and without regard for human life.
