The military council conducted three aerial attacks on Kyaukme town in northern Shan State, which is under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), on the morning of July 11, resulting in the death of one civilian IDP, according to local residents. The military council’s aircraft dropped bombs at 3:09 AM, 3:14 AM, and 3:20 AM, targeting Hotel Kolly, Kyaukme District Police Barracks, and the police station compound. The attacks involved 500-pound bombs.
The bombing resulted in the death of one internally displaced person from Nawnghkio who was staying at Hotel Kolly near Khomong village, while five other IDPs were injured. Similar aerial attacks have occurred in recent weeks, with another incident on July 8 around 9 AM when two 500-pound bombs were dropped near an oxygen factory in Peace Hill area of Kyaukme town, killing one civilian and injuring four others.
Additionally, on June 29, an airstrike near the Kambawza Shan monastery on Panglong Road in Ward 1 of Kyaukme town resulted in injuries to five civilians – two men and three women. Earlier attacks on June 27 and June 24 also targeted Kyaukme town, causing the deaths of five civilians. The military council’s continued aerial bombardment has caused widespread fear among local residents, forcing many to flee their homes for safety. These attacks demonstrate an ongoing pattern of violence against civilian areas, resulting in casualties among the local population and internally displaced persons who had sought refuge in the area.
