
On March 10, the military council conducted aerial bombardments in Kani Township, Sagaing Region, without any ground fighting, resulting in the death of one civilian and injury to another, according to local residents. The attacks occurred after 2 PM, targeting Natgyi village and Muthaw East village in southern Kani Township, where five bombs were dropped from military aircraft. The aerial assault resulted in one vehicle being destroyed by fire and the death of one civilian.
According to local residents, one bomb was dropped near the riverbank on the Muthaw side, while four bombs were dropped near the riverbank on the Natgyi side, totaling five bombs. On the Muthaw side, one cow was killed, while on the Natgyi side, one vehicle was destroyed by fire, one civilian was killed, and another was injured. The targeted areas were ordinary ferry crossing points used by locals for travel between both banks of the Chindwin River, and these locations had also been subjected to similar aerial attacks in the previous month, residents reported.
The military council has ceased ground operations in Kani Township and is now primarily focusing on aerial attacks. In recent times, more than five civilians were killed in military airstrikes on Chaungma village, and five civilians were also killed in attacks on Kyauk Hletkya village. Currently, after another round of aerial attacks, aircraft continue to fly over the Chindwin River, as confirmed by local residents. The military council’s shift to aerial warfare has significantly increased civilian casualties in the region, with multiple incidents of indiscriminate bombing reported in recent months.
