A civilian was killed and others were injured when the military council’s aircraft bombed Thaluhtaung village in Kyondoe town, Kawkareik Township, Karen State. The airstrike occurred at 8:48 AM on April 18, with military aircraft deliberately targeting civilian areas unrelated to ongoing conflicts near Kyondoe town. According to local residents, the aerial attack resulted in casualties and damage to innocent civilians’ properties.
Simultaneously, in Shin Tet Kone village of Minhla Township, Bago Region, military council troops conducted a raid with overwhelming force, causing all villagers to flee as soldiers began arresting local residents. On the morning of April 18, military forces entered Shin Tet Kone village and arrested five villagers, forcing the remaining residents to flee to safety. Local sources reported seeing military vehicles transporting arrested villagers, with troops continuing to maintain their presence in the village.
While the military council announced a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to April 22, supposedly to assist earthquake victims, they have continued military operations including troop deployments, forced civilian arrests, and aerial and artillery attacks on civilian residential areas. Local residents point out that the continuation of military activities despite the announced ceasefire demonstrates the military council’s deceptive nature. The ongoing attacks and arrests during the proclaimed ceasefire period reveal that the announcement was merely a false pretense while the military continues its offensive operations against civilians.
