A civilian was killed and seven houses were burned down when the military council forces launched unprovoked drone and artillery attacks on a village in Htone Gyi Township, Taungoo District, Bago Region, according to an official from the Taungoo District Battalion 2. The attacks occurred despite there being no active fighting in the area.
On March 22 and 23, military council troops stationed in Nyaung Chaik Htauk town deliberately targeted the civilian village with heavy artillery and dropped incendiary bombs using drones. The attacks resulted in one civilian death, seven injuries, and the complete destruction of seven homes by fire. The targeted village had no ongoing battles and no revolutionary forces were conducting any military operations in the area. Local sources confirmed that this was a purely civilian area with no military targets.
Local residents report that the military council forces frequently target villages in Htone Gyi Township, resulting in regular civilian casualties and property destruction from artillery strikes. Due to these ongoing threats, the Taungoo District Battalion 2 has advised residents to construct bomb shelters at every house and to stay far away from military council troops. They have also emphasized the importance of staying informed about daily developments in the area. The pattern of attacks demonstrates the military council’s continued use of indiscriminate force against civilian populations, even in areas where there is no active resistance or combat operations.
