The terrorist military forces conducted airstrikes on Thanabyu Lake Village and Shwebon Island Village in the northern part of Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuries to novice monks. The attacks occurred on May 24 between 6:30 AM and 6:45 AM, causing destruction to monastery buildings. The deceased was identified as U Thein Kyaw, a 60-year-old farmer, while several novice monks sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the attack.
The military initially targeted Nabyu Lake Village, dropping bombs near the monastery east of Magyi Kan Pagoda. They then proceeded to strike areas near Kabyaw Pagoda on the western side of the village and the vicinity of the monastery in Shwebon Island Village. The southern section of the village monastery was completely destroyed in the attack, and novice monks suffered shrapnel wounds. Currently, local residents are seeking shelter in secure locations, fearing additional airstrikes from the military forces.
According to a local defense force leader, approximately eight bombs were dropped on the villages without any ongoing battles in the area. Several bombs also fell in nearby farmlands, and three unexploded ordnances remain in the area. Local defense teams are working to clear the area to ensure civilian safety. The military forces have not only conducted airstrikes but also launched ground operations in Myingyan Township, carrying out arrests and killings of civilians.
Residents from numerous villages in the township have been forced to flee their homes due to the military’s operations. These villages include Waloke, Kyaukkan, Zibinkan, Thayupin, Tuyinpoe, Duwan, Kutke, Thantawgyi, Magyisu, Ywa Thaya, Htenpan, Kinpagan, Myaukkun, Kyaukpyut, Ku, Kwingseik, and Gwayinyo near Nanmyint Mountain. The displacement of civilians continues as the military intensifies its offensive operations in the region, forcing local communities to abandon their homes and seek safety in other areas.
