The National Unity Government (NUG) spokesperson U Nay Boon Latt has warned residents to be vigilant and prepared for potential increased military airstrikes and ground operations in 63 townships where martial law has been declared. He emphasized that the military council is likely to intensify aerial bombardments, drone attacks, and operations targeting civilians in these areas. In locations accessible to ground forces, the military is expected to conduct more aggressive operations, leading to increased oppression and brutality against civilians. The spokesperson advised both the NUG forces, ethnic revolutionary groups controlling these territories, and local residents to remain alert and make necessary preparations.
Furthermore, U Nay Boon Latt cautioned that in townships not under martial law, the military council would attempt to forcefully conduct illegitimate elections. He warned that civilians in these areas might face various forms of coercion and human rights violations as the military tries to force participation in these fraudulent elections. The spokesperson stressed the importance of local communities preparing strategies to avoid and respond to such pressure tactics and rights violations. He emphasized that people should be ready to face these challenges and develop methods to resist the military’s forced participation in their illegitimate electoral process.
The military council has declared martial law in 63 townships currently under the control of various revolutionary forces, including the KIA, MNDAA, AA, KNDF, TNLA, PDF, KNU, UWSA, and NDAA. The declaration, made under the pretext of suppressing armed insurgency, transfers both administrative and judicial powers in these townships to the military’s commander-in-chief. This move represents a significant escalation in the military’s attempts to assert control over territories currently held by resistance forces and ethnic armed organizations. The declaration of martial law gives the military expanded powers to conduct operations and impose restrictions on civilian populations in these areas.
The NUG’s warning comes as part of its ongoing efforts to protect civilians from the military council’s increasing aggression and human rights violations. The situation highlights the growing concerns about civilian safety in both areas under martial law and regions where the military is attempting to establish control through forced participation in their planned elections. The military council’s actions continue to demonstrate its disregard for civilian welfare and human rights, while resistance forces and the NUG work to maintain their control over these territories and protect local populations from military oppression.
