The National Unity Government (NUG) has issued a statement urging peaceful resolution of military tensions between ASEAN member states Thailand and Cambodia. The statement was released as an emergency announcement by the NUG’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, acting in its capacity as a member of ASEAN, expressing deep concern over the escalating situation along the Thai-Cambodian border.
The NUG expressed particular concern about the impact of military confrontations on civilians in the border regions, where both air strikes and artillery exchanges have been reported. The statement emphasized the safety of Myanmar citizens who are currently residing, traveling, or working in these areas, strongly advising them to prioritize their security and comply with local authorities’ safety directives and warnings.
The ongoing military tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have involved aerial attacks and heavy artillery exchanges along their shared border, creating significant security concerns for local populations. In response, the NUG has specifically called on Thai, Cambodian, and Myanmar civilians to exercise extreme caution in the affected areas. The statement also strongly advised against sharing or spreading potentially inflammatory content or misinformation on social media platforms that could further escalate the conflict. The NUG emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability and protecting civilian safety during this period of heightened tension between the two neighboring countries.
