The spokesperson for the National Unity Government (NUG) Prime Minister’s Office, U Nay Boon Latt, has declared that the political parties planning to participate in the military council’s upcoming sham election completely lack public support. Making this statement during today’s Message to the Public and International Community Program 13/2025, he emphasized that this election represents an illegitimate attempt by the military council to force a fraudulent electoral process against the will of the people.
According to U Nay Boon Latt, the political parties that have registered to compete in the military council’s illegal sham election are the same parties that collectively failed to secure even 10 percent of the Union Parliament seats in the 2020 general election. He explained that the military council is systematically suppressing parties with genuine public support while attempting to create a facade of democracy with parties that lack popular backing. The military council is trying to stage this illegitimate election by force, contrary to the will of the people.
He firmly stated that the illegal military group attempting to seize people’s power has no authority to conduct elections. The results of the 2020 election remain politically legitimate, and the legislative and administrative bodies that emerged from that election continue to hold firm legitimacy. Creating a fraudulent election against the will of the people not only violates democratic principles but also represents an attempt to illegitimately seize the sovereign power of the people. The spokesperson emphasized that all actions by the military council operating under the constitution that was officially abolished by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) on March 30, 2021, are illegal and without any legal basis.
U Nay Boon Latt stressed that revolutionary forces opposing the military dictatorship will continue to stand firm on the main political path as outlined in the Federal Democracy Charter and political roadmap. He urged the entire population to reject and resist the military council’s attempts to conduct this illegitimate sham election, emphasizing that the revolutionary movement remains committed to establishing genuine federal democracy in accordance with the will of the people. The NUG maintains its position that any election conducted by the military council lacks legitimacy and represents a direct assault on the democratic aspirations of the Myanmar people.
