The National Unity Government (NUG) spokesperson U Nay Bun Lat has characterized the military council’s recent threats to take legal action against those who purchase goods from anti-dictatorship activists abroad as an attempt to cut off support lines for the revolution. The military council announced it would take action under anti-terrorism laws against those who connect with, purchase from, or resell products from social media accounts belonging to several prominent supporters of the revolution, including singer Chan Chan, Pan Say Lo account owner Eaint Poe Oo, Shwe Nadi account owner Thin Thin Nwe, Aung Thaw account owner, teacher Khaing Su Lwin, Htet Ni Ni Than, and Chan Myae Myae Thaw, as well as those who assist in these activities.
U Nay Bun Lat explained that these threats reflect the military council’s fear of the public’s strong support for the revolution through various means. He emphasized that despite whatever obstacles the military council attempts to create, the people will continue to find ways to support the revolution because it began with and represents the will of the people. According to the military council’s statement, they have arrested two online sellers who were working with singer Chan Chan, allegedly facilitating the distribution of foreign products and handling financial transactions for a commission. The military council claims that Chan Chan opened an online shop on social media in February 2025 and has been selling imported items such as handbags, watches, belts, and clothing without proper online business licensing.
The military council has issued threats of prosecution under anti-terrorism laws against anyone who connects with their targeted individuals, purchases their products, resells them, or assists in these activities in any way. However, despite these intimidation tactics, public support for the revolution continues through various means. The situation highlights the ongoing tension between the military council’s attempts to control economic activities that support the resistance and the determination of the Myanmar people to maintain their support for the revolutionary movement. The military council’s actions demonstrate their increasing concern about the financial networks supporting the resistance, while the NUG’s response emphasizes the people’s unwavering commitment to the revolution despite the risks and threats they face.
