The National Unity Government’s (NUG) Union Minister Office spokesperson U Nay Boon Latt has announced that they will provide assistance to Myanmar citizens facing difficulties in the United States. This announcement was made during the ‘Message to the Public and International Community’ program held on June 10. In the announcement, Myanmar citizens who are currently in the United States and unable to return to Myanmar for various reasons were urged to comply with the existing laws and regulations of the United States.
U Nay Boon Latt emphasized that those experiencing difficulties can contact NUG officials in the United States for assistance, and the National Unity Government will provide help wherever possible within its capacity. While expressing regret that Myanmar is included in the list of countries with travel restrictions to the United States, he acknowledged that the United States has legitimate concerns regarding security and other matters that necessitate such measures.
The spokesperson explained that Myanmar citizens and people of Myanmar descent are unable to return to their country due to the attempted military coup and subsequent resistance warfare, as well as the terrorist military’s forced recruitment of young people into their ranks. He particularly highlighted the difficulties faced by young people and students currently in the United States who cannot return home. U Nay Boon Latt expressed gratitude to the United States for providing shelter to these Myanmar citizens who cannot return and earnestly requested an extension of the Temporary Protected Status program. He emphasized that these measures are crucial given the ongoing crisis in Myanmar, where the military continues to commit violence against civilians and forcibly conscript young people into military service.
