Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Union Minister of the National Unity Government (NUG), has urged all citizens to focus on and participate in ensuring the success of the upcoming general offensive against the military dictatorship. Speaking during the ‘People to People’ Q&A program by Yangon Modern, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe provided detailed explanations about the general offensive. He noted that NUG Defense Minister U Yee Mon and 88 Generation student leader Min Ko Naing had already announced the coming of the general offensive, emphasizing that it would be a key turning point in the revolution requiring everyone’s participation.
Dr. Zaw Wai Soe warned that preparations are necessary as the military council is likely to increase attacks on civilians during the general offensive period. He explained that since the military council finds it difficult to engage with PDF and resistance forces directly, they are likely to deliberately target civilians instead. Therefore, he stressed the importance of preparing secure locations such as safe hospitals, schools, and civilian shelters. He emphasized that while military preparations are ongoing for the general offensive, it is equally important for service providers and the general public to ensure the safety and security of areas where essential services are delivered.
Although the exact timing of the general offensive remains unknown, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe emphasized that the revolution can only succeed if this offensive is successfully concluded. He explained that all the work done over the past four years must now culminate in full participation and preparation for the success of this general offensive. He called for maximum effort and participation from the public, revolutionary forces, and service providers alike. Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, who returned to Myanmar from abroad in early 2025 under the direction of NUG Acting President Duwa Lashi La, stressed that while the timing remains uncertain, this is a crucial period requiring everyone’s attention and participation to ensure the success of both the offensive and the broader revolution against the military dictatorship.
