The Interim President of the National Unity Government (NUG), Duwa Lashi La, has called for greater unity among ethnic groups and revolutionary forces during the government’s 8/2025 cabinet meeting. He emphasized that Myanmar’s political history has been marked by divisions and fragmentations, which successive military regimes have exploited through divide-and-rule tactics. The Interim President warned that such divisions must be avoided to prevent playing into the hands of the enemy.
Since Myanmar’s independence, the country has experienced numerous political divisions and conflicts between various political forces and ethnic armed organizations, which the military has historically used to justify their power grabs. The Interim President stressed that during the current Spring Revolution, maintaining the highest level of unity among revolutionary forces is crucial for completely dismantling the military dictatorship system. He pointed out that successive military governments have consistently employed divide-and-rule strategies, making it essential for all revolutionary forces to remain vigilant against such tactics.
The military regime has consistently opposed both ethnic unity and cooperation between revolutionary forces, actively working to prevent such alliances. The Interim President specifically praised the ongoing efforts toward unity between Chin ethnic organizations, namely the Chin State Council and the Chin National Consultative Council, describing it as a positive development. He emphasized that while the emergence of new revolutionary organizations during the resistance demonstrates the movement’s strength, these groups must work together cohesively to effectively combat the military dictatorship.
The Interim President further emphasized that the complete eradication of the terrorist military council requires unified action from all ethnic nationalities. He noted that although the diversity of revolutionary organizations represents a form of strength, their collective power would be significantly enhanced through unified coordination and cooperation. The focus must remain on the common enemy – the military council – and all efforts should be directed toward its complete elimination through coordinated resistance efforts. This can only be achieved through maintaining strong unity among all revolutionary forces and ethnic groups fighting for democracy and freedom in Myanmar.
