
The National Unity Government’s (NUG) Defense Ministry, Military Region 1, has officially announced the successful capture of Banmauk town in Sagaing Region. The offensive began on September 15 and achieved complete control of the town by September 20. The operation involved combined forces led by Yan Htun (Strategic Commander), including SNA Battalion 614, 972, police forces, and Pyu Saw Htee units, with approximately 400 troops. They successfully captured strategic locations including Myit Sae Chin Village guard post, tower hill, Aung Kambha Thein KTV, Kywe Kaw Kone Village, and Myit Sae Chin Village monastery among other important positions.
During the battle, the military council forces conducted 10 jet fighter bombing raids, along with drone attacks and heavy artillery strikes. The resistance forces captured significant military equipment from the junta forces, including 2 G-3 rifles, 1 Uzi, 1 AK rifle, 12,876 rounds of various ammunition, 28 120mm mortar shells, 7 81mm mortar shells, 14 60mm mortar shells, and 100 various drone bombs among other military supplies. The battle resulted in the loss of 6 revolutionary fighters, while 7 bodies from the military council side, including one SNA officer, were recovered.
Currently, the remaining military council and SNA forces have established defensive positions in Shwe Chaung Village, Pinhin Kha Village, and Thayar Kone Village, with the majority retreating to Man Kone Village and Anauk Taw Village in the northern part of Banmauk Township. The successful capture of Banmauk town was achieved through coordinated efforts under Military Region 1’s command, involving various Katha District battalions, People’s Defense Forces, artillery battalions, and special mobile units. This victory marks a significant milestone in Myanmar’s revolution against the military council.
