The National Unity Government (NUG) Defense Minister U Ye Mon has disclosed that some territories may need to be temporarily abandoned to effectively counter the terrorist military’s offensives. He explained that since the military council has received overt support from some neighboring authoritarian countries, they have become emboldened to launch certain offensives through psychological warfare operations. As a result, revolutionary forces may need to strategically withdraw from some areas to effectively counter the military’s advances.
The Defense Minister clarified that in the current situation, it would not be appropriate for revolutionary forces to engage in purely defensive warfare. He described how forces are being withdrawn from urban areas to conduct mobile operations against enemy forces. Despite facing challenges in weapons procurement, he noted significant progress in indigenous production and technological capabilities, highlighting the important advancement in their ability to capture and utilize enemy weapons. He emphasized that while there are major needs regarding arms and ammunition, especially given a neighboring country’s explicit support for the military council and interference in internal affairs, they continue to acquire necessary resources through various means and have made progress in self-production capabilities.
The Defense Minister also addressed the military council’s preparations for holding an election by the end of the year, describing it as an illegitimate and fraudulent election that would not receive international recognition. He explained that the military group is attempting to legitimize their illegally seized state power through their proxy political party, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), and other affiliated parties. He emphasized that the majority of the public would firmly reject this illegitimate election by the military council. Additionally, he stressed the importance of unity among revolutionary forces during this critical time when the military council is attempting to reassert control, warning that internal discord would only benefit the enemy. The NUG plans to implement reforms soon and continues to emphasize the importance of unity among revolutionary forces in their struggle against the military council.
