The National Unity Government’s (NUG) Union Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson U Nay Bun Lat has announced that the military council, which has renamed itself as the Military Commission, remains a terrorist organization and will continue to be dealt with according to anti-terrorism laws. On September 18, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), and the National Unity Government jointly declared that the State Administration Council’s transformed State Security and Peace Commission is a terrorist organization and an enemy of the Federal Republic of Myanmar and its people.
U Nay Bun Lat explained that since the military council had previously been declared a terrorist organization by both CRPH and NUG, its rebranded version as the Military Commission would also fall under the same designation as a terrorist organization and an enemy of the state. He further clarified that all subordinate organizations under the Military Commission would also be designated as terrorist groups, and all individuals involved with these organizations would be subject to legal action under anti-terrorism laws through the NUG’s Central Counter-Terrorism Committee.
On February 1, 2021, the military group led by Min Aung Hlaing committed an act of treason by illegally detaining the State President, State Counsellor, and members of the civilian government, seizing power from the people. Consequently, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw declared the State Administration Council a terrorist group on March 1, 2021. Similarly, the National Unity Government declared this terrorist group as an Enemy of the State on September 5, 2024. The announcement further emphasizes that any declarations made by the terrorist Military Commission against ethnic revolutionary organizations and other revolutionary forces are null and void, and all actions taken by the Military Commission and its subordinate organizations lack legal validity. The NUG and NUCC have jointly announced that they will take action against these entities in accordance with anti-terrorism laws.
