The National Unity Government (NUG) has announced that it will suspend military offensives for two weeks to provide emergency rescue and medical assistance to earthquake victims. The announcement states that if security guarantees are provided in major cities under military council control, Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) staff working with the NUG will collaborate with international aid organizations to conduct emergency rescue and medical operations for earthquake victims.
The People’s Defense Force under the NUG’s Ministry of Defense will suspend all offensive operations starting March 30 for two weeks, maintaining only defensive operations. This decision was made to enable emergency rescue operations for civilians trapped in collapsed homes, buildings, and workplaces due to earthquake damage. The suspension aims to facilitate humanitarian assistance while maintaining necessary defensive positions.
The National Unity Government has called upon United Nations relief teams, international organizations, and other international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) to provide immediate emergency rescue and medical assistance to earthquake victims. Furthermore, the NUG has committed to ensuring security, transportation, and the establishment of temporary rescue and medical camps in NUG-controlled territories to support these organizations’ operations. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the NUG’s commitment to facilitating international humanitarian assistance.
The NUG has allocated an initial budget of one million US dollars for emergency rescue and medical operations to assist earthquake victims. The government has announced it will work in close coordination with revolutionary forces, allied organizations, and civil society organizations under the ‘People to People Initiative’ to maximize relief efforts. The NUG has also called upon all ethnic nationals to actively participate in and support these emergency relief operations, emphasizing the importance of unified action in responding to this natural disaster. This coordinated approach aims to ensure effective delivery of aid to affected populations while maintaining security and operational efficiency.
