The National Unity Government (NUG) and Myanmar Human Rights Alliance Committee (MHAC) are jointly working to ensure justice in a rape case involving a Myanmar woman at a factory in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. The incident occurred on the morning of August 5, when a Thai truck driver from the factory separated a Myanmar worker couple who were staying in the workers’ dormitory. The driver first took the husband away, leaving the wife alone in their quarters.
According to reports, the Thai truck driver left the Myanmar worker’s husband at a location along the road before returning to the factory. Upon his return, he entered the room where the Myanmar woman remained alone. Armed with a knife, he threatened her, physically assaulted her by punching and choking, and then sexually assaulted her. The victim and her husband had been temporarily staying in the workers’ dormitory while waiting to collect their wages. The incident began around 4 AM when the perpetrator first arrived to separate the couple.
CCTV footage confirms that the Thai truck driver forcibly entered the room while armed with a knife. Despite the Myanmar woman’s screams for help, he proceeded to assault her physically and sexually. Following the incident, the victim sought assistance from MHAC, who then coordinated with U Naing Htun Oo, Director of NUG’s Ministry of Labor, to file a case and initiate legal proceedings.
Through the collaborative efforts of Thai authorities, MHAC, and the NUG’s Ministry of Labor, the Thai perpetrator has been arrested and detained. Ko Zin Paing, the MHAC alliance’s information officer, stated that they have taken responsibility for covering all necessary expenses, including medical examinations for the victim. He affirmed their commitment to continue providing assistance until justice is served through legal proceedings, ensuring the perpetrator faces appropriate punishment according to law.
