The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and Ta’ang State Council (TLC) have issued statements opposing the terrorist military council’s sham election. The Myanmar military, which has committed genocide and various forms of persecution against civilians, is merely an armed group that attempted to seize state power by violating their own 2008 Constitution. The NUCC declared that they have no authority to hold any elections. The military council’s attempts to hold elections are solely aimed at covering up their crimes, protecting their interests, maintaining power, and will only lead to deeper conflicts.
The Ta’ang State Council also strongly condemned the military’s deliberate airstrikes and heavy weapons attacks on civilian areas across the country, as well as their preparations for an illegitimate sham election. From July 21 to August 21, 2025, there were over 25 instances of airstrikes on civilian areas in Kyaukme, Mogok, Hsipaw, Kutkai, and Mong Ngaw regions within Ta’ang State Council territory. These attacks resulted in 59 civilian deaths and over 100 injuries. On August 22 alone, 39 bombs were dropped on Naung Pin village in Kyaukme Township.
The military council continues to commit war crimes not only in Ta’ang territory but throughout the country, deliberately targeting civilians. The Ta’ang State Council urges the entire population to reject and boycott the sham election. They also call on the international community, including the United Nations and international organizations, to take effective action against the military’s ongoing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and mass killings. The council expressed deep condolences to the families of civilians who lost their lives in these attacks and emphasized that the military council’s attempts to extend dictatorial rule through illegitimate elections must be opposed by all.
