The military council’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has announced that hotels and tourism businesses are expected to see increased revenue as tourists will be visiting regions affected by the recent earthquake that killed nearly 4,000 people in Mandalay, Sagaing, and Naypyidaw areas. This announcement comes while local residents are still dealing with widespread destruction and loss of homes due to the earthquake damage.
The Karen National Union (KNU) has officially announced the successful capture of the military council’s Htee Khee strategic camp and Taw Kho Bee camp near the Thai-Myanmar border in Dawei and Hlaingbwe townships. These camps were significant military installations in the region, and their capture represents an important victory for the revolution.
Political prisoner Ma Nway Ni Win, who was pregnant and facing political charges in Mandalay’s Obo Prison, has died after being denied necessary medical treatment for injuries sustained during the March 28 earthquake. Her death due to lack of proper medical care in prison represents another instance of human rights violations by the military council.
