
On July 24 at around 7 AM, strong winds struck Shwe Kyin Tha Main Road in Thaketa Township, Yangon Region, causing significant damage to navy barracks’ roofs, according to local residents. The windstorm specifically affected the naval compound while leaving nearby civilian residential areas completely unharmed, as confirmed by local sources.
The strong winds caused extensive damage to the roofs of the navy barracks, with many being completely blown off, and trees within the naval compound were also damaged and broken. Clean-up operations to remove fallen trees are still ongoing following the incident. Notably, the wind damage was concentrated solely within the naval compound, while civilian homes in the surrounding neighborhoods remained completely unaffected by the severe weather event.
According to a local resident’s account, the windstorm caused complete destruction of the navy barracks’ roofs, resulting in injuries to military council troops’ family members residing in the naval compound. Currently, cleanup operations are continuing to address the damage, and medical treatment is being provided to those who were injured in the incident. The extent of the damage within the naval compound remains significant, while the selective nature of the wind’s impact, affecting only military facilities while sparing civilian areas, has been noted by local residents.
