The Special Operations Force (SOF) P-29999, a special arm unit under the People’s Defense Force of the National Unity Government, simultaneously celebrated its 4th anniversary at various battalion bases across Karen State, Mon State, and Bago Region on July 21, 2024. The ceremonies began with a salute to the People’s Defense Force flag, followed by the oath-taking ceremony by attending force members.
During the ceremonies, a congratulatory message from the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government was read. Comrade Saw Shar, the Operations Commander of Operation Area No. 1, delivered a congratulatory speech. This was followed by an address from the Deputy Chief of Military Affairs from the Military Headquarters, and Comrade Aung San Shar, the commander of the Special Operations Force, delivered the 4th anniversary commemorative speech. The People’s Defense Force logistics coordinator from Yangon Region also gave commemorative remarks.
As a special part of the ceremony, ‘Sacrifice and Valor Medals’ were awarded to SOF members who gave their lives in battle between July 2024 and July 2025. Additionally, ‘Self-Sacrificing Hero Medals’ were presented to force members who, despite suffering severe injuries and loss of limbs, continued to serve their duties with dedication. These ceremonies reportedly helped boost the morale and unity among force members. The events highlighted the commitment and sacrifice of the Special Operations Force members in their ongoing struggle, while recognizing those who had made the ultimate sacrifice for their cause and those who continue to serve despite severe injuries.
