The Tama Institute for Development today released a list of 28 senior officers, including Kyi Myint Than, the head of the military council’s defense equipment division, and weapons factory directors who are involved in genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in Myanmar. The report aims to facilitate international action and measures by the National Unity Government against these individuals. The research paper titled ‘Bloody Hands Behind the Guns: Exposing Myanmar Military’s Weapons Manufacturers’ details those primarily responsible for the military’s domestic weapons production.
May Tama from the Tama Institute stated that they will provide accurate and reliable information to relevant organizations and work with partner organizations to impose sanctions on those identified in the report. The report identifies the Chief Officer, two Deputy Chief Officers of the Defense Equipment Production Office (DEPO), and directors of 25 defense equipment factories who are primarily responsible for producing military weapons used in international crimes committed by the military group. The Chief of the Military Council’s Defense Equipment Production Office (DEPO) is Lieutenant General Kyi Myint Than, and the two Deputy Chiefs are Brigadier General Ko Ko Lwin and Brigadier General Myo Aung.
The report provides detailed information about factory directors from Factory No. 1 to Factory No. 25, all holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. These factory directors are directly responsible not only for weapons production but also for violence against civilians, serving as key pillars in the military group’s oppressive machinery. The report calls on international governments to impose sanctions on DEPO, its top leadership, and factory directors. It also requests the National Unity Government to blacklist these individuals who are primarily responsible for the military group’s weapons production as identified in the report.
