A Myanmar national was assaulted by a Thai citizen in Pathum Thani, Thailand, and the case has now been reported to the relevant police station after the perpetrator shared a video on social media labeling the victim as a fraudster, according to Ko Ye Min from AAC, who assists Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand. The incident occurred on January 1st of this year when Ko Thar Nyi, age 24, experienced a motorcycle tire puncture near Pathum Hospital while going to buy medicine for his sick child. He had the tire repaired at a nearby motorcycle repair shop and paid with 500 and 1000 baht notes.
When the shop owner claimed he had no change available, Ko Thar Nyi left to get change from his sister. However, the shop owner followed him, accused him of leaving without paying for the repairs, and assaulted him while another person accompanying the shop owner recorded the incident on video. Although Ko Thar Nyi had reported the assault to the police station in January, the police only took 1000 baht and took no action on the case. The repair fee dispute that led to the assault was over just 140 baht.
Currently, AAC’s Ko Ye Min and his team, together with the victim’s employer, have officially filed a case and are determined to pursue it until the truth is revealed. Ko Thar Nyi had initially remained quiet about the incident out of concern for his wife and one-month-old child who has a heart condition. However, when the perpetrator posted the assault video on Facebook with false accusations of fraud, Ko Thar Nyi sought help from the M.H.A.C (Alliance Group) to pursue justice in the case.
