The Free Burma Action Committee-Northern California organized their 21st fundraising event titled ‘Beyond the Yoma, Across the Irrawaddy, Marching Towards Victory’ in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. This year’s event featured a special first-time photo exhibition documenting the four years of Myanmar’s Spring Revolution alongside the traditional fundraising bazaar. The event aimed to directly support ground resistance movements in Myanmar.
The fundraising bazaar featured Myanmar traditional food, handicrafts, and Spring Revolution memorabilia for sale, with all proceeds designated for direct support to revolutionary activities inside Myanmar. Additionally, the organizers conducted an advocacy campaign, sending letters to the U.S. government and congressional representatives regarding the Myanmar situation. The photo exhibition displayed powerful images documenting the brave actions of pro-democracy resistance fighters and the military regime’s brutal crackdowns during the Spring Revolution period.
Through this exhibition, organizers aimed to raise international awareness about the ongoing situation in Myanmar. The event demonstrated the continued solidarity of the Myanmar diaspora community in supporting the revolution while documenting its historical significance through photography. The combination of fundraising activities and visual documentation served to both support the resistance movement financially and maintain international attention on Myanmar’s struggle for democracy.
