A Myanmar Cultural Food Festival was successfully held in Gimhae, South Korea on May 4th, aimed at raising funds for Myanmar war refugees and earthquake victims. The event was jointly organized by Myanmar youth residing in Gimhae and Korean staff from the Gimhae City Center. The organizers announced that all proceeds from the festival would be donated to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and earthquake victims in Myanmar.
The festival was attended by Myanmar youth living in South Korea, Korean citizens, and NUG (National Unity Government) Representative to South Korea, U Yan Naing Htun, who delivered the opening remarks. The event featured various traditional Myanmar dishes including Mohinga, Coconut Noodles, Mont-hin-gar, Lahpet Thoke (Tea Leaf Salad), Htamin Thoke (Rice Salad), Myanmar Tea, and other traditional delicacies. The festival also included cultural performances, which drew significant interest from attendees.
The organizers emphasized that such fundraising initiatives are crucial for supporting Myanmar’s internally displaced people and natural disaster victims. They explained that Myanmar people living abroad are making concerted efforts to assist their fellow citizens back home in whatever way possible. The support is particularly critical at this time, as Myanmar currently has hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons due to ongoing conflicts, and the recent earthquake has caused significant damage, making such humanitarian assistance essential for affected communities.
