Myanmar citizens living in Japan gathered in front of the busy Shibuya Station in Tokyo to demonstrate their support for the reappointment of U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Ambassador to the United Nations, who has been representing the will and voice of the Myanmar people. The protesters held signs supporting democracy in Myanmar and opposing the military dictatorship system. The demonstration took place in one of Tokyo’s most prominent locations, drawing attention to their cause.
U Kyaw Moe Tun has been a crucial voice representing the Myanmar people at the United Nations since the military coup, consistently bringing the military council’s acts of violence to the attention of the international community. With his diplomatic term coming to an end soon, Myanmar citizens both inside the country and abroad are calling for his reappointment to ensure continued representation of the people’s interests at the UN. His role has been particularly significant in maintaining international attention on Myanmar’s struggle for democracy and human rights.
The demonstrators also called for increased support from the international community for the restoration of democracy in Myanmar, the swift end to military dictatorship, and the reestablishment of civilian government. Furthermore, they demanded justice for civilians who have lost their lives due to the military council’s violence and called for international legal action against military leadership through international courts. The protesters emphasized the importance of maintaining diplomatic representation that truly reflects the will of Myanmar’s people rather than the military council that has been oppressing its citizens.
