A monk was injured when the terrorist military conducted an airstrike on Theinteikone Monastery in Aungtha village, Natogyi Township, Mandalay Region, according to a representative from the Natogyi Township People’s Defense Force. The attack occurred around 10:30 PM on July 18, when the terrorist military dropped two bombs from a fighter jet on the monastery. The injured monk, who was already in poor health, sustained wounds during the attack. Additionally, the airstrike caused significant damage to pagodas, buildings, and walls within the monastery compound.
The incident clearly demonstrates how the terrorist military’s aerial attacks do not spare religious buildings and structures. Elaborating on the incident, the People’s Defense Force official explained that the Theinteikone Monastery, located west of Aungtha village, appeared to have been deliberately targeted in this attack. The strike represents another instance of the military junta’s ongoing campaign of violence against civilian and religious targets across the country.
Simultaneously, the terrorist military also conducted airstrikes using Y-12 aircraft in areas along the border of Laymyethna and Ingapu Townships in the Ayeyarwady Region. The attacks, which occurred around 7 AM on July 19, targeted several villages including Panteawgyi, Laytagyi, Htaukkyunkwin, Sawpya, and Kyarkaik villages. However, the extent of civilian casualties and damage to residential buildings in these areas has not yet been confirmed. These coordinated attacks demonstrate the military’s continued use of airpower against civilian populations and infrastructure across multiple regions of Myanmar.
