
Sources close to the monastery have reported that Venerable Bhaddanta Indobhasa, the abbot of Oak Seint Pin Monastery in Saw Wa Village, Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region, has passed away following an artillery strike by the military council forces. The incident occurred on June 1st at approximately 3:30 PM when military council troops stationed in Dawei city and at the Border Areas and National Races Development Department office launched an artillery barrage, firing over 100 shells into the Shin Muthtee village tract area of Dawei Township.
During this bombardment, an artillery shell struck Oak Seint Pin Monastery in Saw Wa Village, resulting in the death of the 66-year-old abbot, who had served 46 Buddhist Lents. According to local sources, the military council forces conducted indiscriminate artillery strikes from their positions in Dawei city, targeting civilian areas and religious buildings including monasteries. The extensive shelling continued throughout the day, causing widespread destruction and forcing local residents to flee their homes.
Currently, military council troops have entered the Shin Muthtee village tract area, compelling local civilians to evacuate to safer locations due to serious concerns for their lives. The artillery strikes have caused significant damage to civilian homes and properties throughout the region. The situation has created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among local residents, with mounting concerns about civilian safety as the military council continues its aggressive actions in the area. Local sources report that the community is experiencing severe disruption to daily life, with many families displaced and seeking refuge in safer locations away from the conflict zone.
