The Mon National Party and Mon Liberation Army have officially announced the formation of the Ramanya Mon Army on May 24, 2025, through a joint statement from both organizations. The primary objective of this merger is to fight against the military dictatorship and work towards achieving equality and full self-determination for the Mon State. This consolidation has resulted in the establishment of a military organization named the Ramanya Mon Army (RMA).
According to the new organization’s structure, a political and military committee has been formed with twenty-six members, comprising representatives from both the Mon National Party’s political-military leadership team and the Mon Liberation Army’s leadership. Through this committee, a nine-member political-military leading committee was elected, with Nai Zaya appointed as Chairman, Nai Layikaung as Vice Chairman, and Nai Banyar Lay as Secretary. This structuring aims to more effectively implement the aspirations and goals of the Mon people.
To effectively execute the military operations of the Ramanya Mon Army, a separate military committee consisting of seven members has been established. The military committee appointed Colonel General Sa Lone Htaw as Commander-in-Chief, Colonel Soe Win as Deputy Commander-in-Chief (1), and Colonel Kyun San as Deputy Commander-in-Chief (2). This military committee will oversee all military activities of the unified force.
The Ramanya Mon Army has explicitly stated in their announcement that they will collaborate with other ethnic revolutionary alliance organizations and People’s Defense Forces to achieve the swift end of the military dictatorship and the emergence of a Mon State with full self-determination rights. Such collaborations are expected to play a crucial role in Myanmar’s democracy movement and the struggle for ethnic rights. The formation of this unified force represents a significant development in the resistance against military rule and the pursuit of autonomous rights for the Mon people.
