On March 28, a moderate earthquake struck across Myanmar during the afternoon hours, causing concern among residents nationwide. The tremor, which lasted approximately three minutes from 12:52 PM to 12:55 PM, was distinctly felt throughout all townships in Yangon Region, as well as in Mandalay, Pakokku, Yinmabin, Myawaddy, Mawlamyine, Kyaikmayaw, and Myaungmya. During the earthquake, buildings noticeably shook and furniture moved, creating a significant impact that was clearly felt by residents throughout these areas.
According to a resident from Yangon, this earthquake was notably stronger than usual and lasted longer than typical tremors. People reported feeling physical swaying, with those in high-rise buildings experiencing particularly intense effects. Additionally, Myanmar citizens currently in Thailand’s Mae Sot and Chiang Mai cities confirmed they felt the earthquake simultaneously with those in Myanmar, indicating the widespread reach of the seismic activity.
The earthquake prompted residents to evacuate buildings across various regions, and business operations were temporarily suspended. People in high-rise buildings, offices, and shopping centers evacuated their premises out of safety concerns. However, as of the current time, there have been no official reports regarding damage to infrastructure or injuries resulting from the earthquake. The event has highlighted the importance of earthquake preparedness and safety measures, particularly in urban areas with high-rise structures.
