Reports have emerged from military-affiliated Telegram channels that John Lwin, owner of a prominent modeling agency in Yangon, is currently being interrogated by the military. The interrogation began after John Lwin returned to Yangon from abroad on the evening of June 4th. According to military-affiliated Telegram channels, the questioning is reportedly related to allegations about purchasing products sold by singer Chan Chan.
Film industry insiders from Yangon have noted that John Lwin is known for being particularly devoted to his mother, who equally shares a strong bond with her son. Sources suggest that the military’s interrogation of John Lwin may be connected to issues involving military supporter Khine Hnin Wai. Specifically, the questioning may relate to a disputed donation amount of nearly 3 million kyats that was mistakenly transferred to Khine Hnin Wai, as well as John Lwin’s multiple social media posts criticizing her.
On May 26th, John Lwin publicly called for Khine Hnin Wai to immediately return the mistakenly transferred donation amount of 2.9 million kyats through social media posts. He also openly criticized her actions. Khine Hnin Wai has been labeled as a military supporter due to her activities collecting public donations for natural disasters like floods and earthquakes in Myanmar, then channeling these funds through military authorities and local administrators aligned with the military. She has also attended military-related events and actively participated in pro-military propaganda films. These actions have led to widespread criticism from both the film industry and the general public, who view her as being aligned with the military regime.
